Many of the shows are wonderful, but they cost an arm and a leg.
Research the show you want to see carefully before plunking down your $$$$
There is a lot of free entertainment around if you look for it. Some of it is found in people-watching. Some can be found in the hotel malls such as the Forum Shops [The Twilight of the Gods], the thunderstorm at Desert Passage and the mimes and singing gondoliers at The Venetian. You don't have to pay for the ride to enjoy their voices!

Cover is the largest waste of money for the partier and the biggest profit for clubs... I mean, you are paying them to go buy drinks at their establishment??? Just ask a cabbie or your hotel clerk and they will have PLENTY of these free no-cover charge passes to almost anywhere... Leave a Comment

Strip hotels will sell you liquor, toothpaste, laundry service etc. for inflated prices. Likewise, the price of your wife's manicure (or yours) will be $35 from the hotel instead of $15 off-strip. The Fashion Show Mall (3200 S. LV Blvd just N of Treasure Island) is very ritzy compared to, say, the Boulevard Mall 3/4 mi to the east.
Win lots of money from the casino first.
A few blocks east of the Strip there are regular shopping areas where you can visit drugstores / clothing stores / get your hair or nails done and save half (compared to the same products or services at your hotel). Example: Boulevard Mall (3258 S. Maryland Pkwy between Desert Inn & Flamingo) is a shopping mall surrounded by lesser (read: normal) shops. This is a must for any vacation in America! This is a thick book composed of "buy-1-get-1-free" coupons to hundreds of places. There is a fine dining or classy section of coupons. There is also a casual section. For those who like Jack in the Box and other informal restaurant, they have that section too. In addition, there are quite a few coupons to various shops and online companies, which offer 25% and below off products. And Finally, there are many hotels listed in the back of the book which offer 50% off rack room rates. The list contains all the participants across the U.S. You can usually finds these books at colleges and universities or you can buy one online at http://www.entertainment.com. These books usually go on sale around October and they all expire November the following year. Usually around February, you can get the books around half price, just because the company doesn't want to get stuck with any printed books. I just bought 2 books for Vegas at $12.50 each, which includes free shipping. Below, is a list of all the fine dining and casual restaurants which offer the "buy-1-get-1-free." I have only listed the restaurants in Vegas, however, there are a few in Henderson, Boulder City, Bullhead City, Jean, Mesquite, and Laughlin. I noticed that most photo-processing on offer was a rip-off in Las Vegas, especially in the Casinos. There's a supermarket right on the strip (I think it's called Walgreens), which does it much cheaper! Leave a Comment

A tourist trap is having people coming up to you and ask if you want your picture taken. We had a picture taken of us at the Excalibur show and for TWO small pictures, it cost us about $20.00! Have somebody you met take the picture instead. Leave a Comment

While I'm sure the Stratosphere is an excellent casino, the thrill rides at the top are not quite so stellar. While there is an assumed thrill to riding one of the world's highest roller-coasters, in fact the better coasters can be found closer to the ground at the other casinos. Its especially annoying that you are charged to go up the tower and then charged again to ride either the drop or the coaster. Leave a Comment

Althought buses seem to be the cheapest and easiest way to get around, check your
options. OFTEN buses are packed and fare is 2.00. If you don't mind splitting a cab
with your group and are not going far, you will get there with less aggravation and also
quicker without making stops on every corner Leave a Comment

Las Vegas is a very expensive town. Not gambling will save you a bundle. Last trip I gambled and lost $2.50. It would have been $1., but I got bored at the airport :) It's hard to avoid the ubiquitous "slots."
Set yourself a limit. Mine is usually $2. -- but I was having so much fun doing other stuff I didn't do that much until I got to the airport:)
The alternative is to shop -- ooooopppps that's money too :)))) Or just enjoy the craziness of the buildings and the people walking around. Leave a Comment

Hotel Stores - If you forget your sunblock please I beg of you use the Walgreens in the middle of the strip. A small bottle of sunblock inside the Hotels costs ten bucks. THe Walgreens is located center strip at 3765 Las Vegas Blvd. S, tel. 702/739-9645 Leave a Comment
