Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino: Why not stay Downtown    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:

  • I stayed at the 4* Golden Nugget in 2003 and it is considered to be the best hotel in the Downtown area. It is ideally located right on Fremont St and perfect for the evening light show. The public areas and rooms are excellent and in my opinion compare favourably to a 4/5* hotel in Europe. Great customer service and a very enjoyable stay. A spa, salon, pool and all styles of eateries complete the Golden Nugget experience. It is more expensive than some of the others close by but I would recommend it to anyone considering staying Downtown.

The hotel lobby houses the Hand of Faith, allegedly the largest gold nugget on public display in the world.

Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino: Excellent Experience    Check Rates

  • Stayed 3 nights at the Golden Nugget April 15-18, 2004. The room was not only nice but clean as well. The view was lacking but what can you expect for $49 a night. The staff was not only accomodating but friendly, and they allowed us to check in early (4 hours early). This was the first time I have ever stayed somewhere that when there was a "please do not disturb" sign on the door they actually left you alone. Unlike the housekeeping at the Venetian who almost took the door off of the hinges while attempting to gain access. They (Venetian housekeeping) decided their job was more important than their guests relaxation. Not to mention I spent $300 more a night for their room. (Although it was beautiful, it could never be worth that kind of money). I will continue to stay at the Golden Nugget because you walk out the door and you are on Freemont which was fun. (BTW, Stay away from the Girls of Glitter Gulch, the girls there are rejects from the other Las Vegas strip clubs. AWFUL! But they were nice, I guess) (Save your money for Sapphire's!

The Golden Nugget was exceptional from the scent of the massive flower arrangements to the sweet smiles on the staff faces. I received many "Hello's" and thank you for staying with us. It was all and all a great experience. By the way, many people *** and moan about the sour faces that greet them when they are guests at a hotel. I am a bartender and it is amazing what please thank you and a smile will get you. Sometimes people reflect your attitude. To those people my suggestion is smile and say thank you and have patience. It's just a common courtesy.

Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino: Really good !    Check Rates

  • The Golden Nugget is a true recommendation. After Feb, 1999 I had my 2nd stay there in April, 2004 and was fully satisfied.
    Clean, big rooms. Excellent Buffet.
The relatively separation between the Hotel and the Casino made it easy with kids – as we figured out (the local law of no kids in the Casino was a little bit strange for us as Europeans, a big surprise even like "no kids at the bar").
All over all an excellent value for the money.

Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino: GOLDEN NUGGET LAS...    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • GOLDEN NUGGET LAS VEGAS

Downtown Las Vegas is generally a place of broken dreams,
shabby casinos and the folks who cannot afford the 'Strip'
experience. So what is the Golden Nugget doing down here?

The Golden Nugget is one of the nicest casinos in Las
Vegas. Marble floors, fresh flowers, and well-heeled
gamblers are all here in abundance. While the surrounding
neighborhood is far from appealing, the Nugget itself is
    nice.

The Golden Nugget is a top-rate but basic casino. Here you
won't see lots of flash, just lots of serious gambling. The
flashiest attraction here (besides it being a refuge from
the bums who plague downtown Vegas) is a monster gold
    nugget on display.

Best bet: Not walking off the hotel grounds for safety
    reasons.

  • Away from the mega-huge casino hotels of the strip are the smaller places that have been around for many years. the prices here are cheaper and the hotels a touch less impersonal

the Golden Nugget was very comfortable, there is an expansion programme underway but we saw little or no disturbance.

  • I love the Golden Nugget. great hotel, great casino, and your teated well by all employees. The downside is it's more expensive than other downtown hotels, but they do offer specials all the time that help keep the cost down.

Plush rooms, great pool, and a well lit clean casino. The Golden Nugget also has plenty of good resteraunts, and one of the best breakfast buffets in town. Locals go to the Nugget just for the buffet.

The Golden Nugget is definately the nicest place downtown.

  • We stayed here on one of our many wonderful anniversaries and were very pleased with the comfort and décor of the room. It was fun being in the old original downtown gaming area and had a wonderful time wondering to each of the other casinos and restaurants. We had to the pleasure of seeing Don Rickles who was the headliner at that time. Wow, we were very glad not to be sitting up front…LOL. He was merciless to those upfront.

Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino: golden era of marbel/brass and beveled glass gone    Check Rates
  • Satisfaction:
  • stayed over the labour day weekend and am very disappointed in what the new owners are doing to the once elegant GN. The beautiful marbel is covered with wood pannelling, beveled glass and brass mirrors on the ceiling are being changed to brown paint. Construction walls are up every where. Upstairs in the hall outside the new buffet the walls are dark and depressing. It is so dark you feel like your in some smelly old hotel. We have been going to the GN for 8 years and they have had 3 different owners but what's happening to the once elegant hotel is a crime. The casino has very tight slots and for those who play 5 cent machines there is only stools without backs. I have sent all three owners suggestions to replace the stools with chairs with backs if they are interested in their customers playing there for any lenght of time. Nickel players, playing 9, 15 and 20 lines are in fact spending more then the $1.00 machines each pull. Also they slots are very crowed together.

The guest rooms are always clean and comfortable but the bathrooms are the smallest I have ever seen. Staff are pleasant and the location on Freemont street is great. The pool has been closed since Easter for construction of a new pool. Carson Street Cafe is the only thing that is still great. The new buffet is nothing special and you can get better out side the GN.

I can only hope that when it is all completed it will be nice but so far it looks like the "new refreshed look" they are trying to acheive has the opposite effect. The GN did not need a new refreshed look it was elegant and polished and now its dark and depressing.

We have never had a great view but if you are staying at the GN ask to be in the North tower because it is beside the casino and next to Freemont street. If you stay in the south tower you will have a long walk to everything.

The pool is supposed to be open in October but I would be sure to ask before I booked as we were told it would be open this past summer and when we booked they said it would be October and from the look of the construction I doubt it will be open this October.

Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino: Nice but long check in lines    Check Rates
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Golden Nugget is the nicest hotel downtown. But, the check in lines are always long here. Expect to stand in line for an hour when you arrive.

The pool is outstanding. It's heated and very cool with the shark tank and the slide. But, it's not really a pool you can swim any length in.

Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino: This place really hasn't changed....    Check Rates
  • Satisfaction:
  • I am been traveling to LV since 1968. I played golf at the Dunes, which is now the Excalibur, and at the Tropicana, which is now the MGM. I have stayed at almost every major hotel since I still visit an average of 4 times a year. My annual golf trip with all my friends is in its 24th year there. I also lived in Vegas for a year with a downtown office overlooking Freemont Street.

I recently tried the "new" Nugget after watching the television show with the new owners. I didn't feel anything different when I walked in, and the rest of the stay wasn't much different than 20 years ago. Sure, the did some upgrades and remodeling, but much of the place has stayed the same.

I didn't feel any of the excitment that the people on television felt, and was a little disppointed that time really had stood still there for the most part.

For staying downtown, it is one of the best places. And I prefer downtown for increased odds, better blackjack and great (cheesey) souvenirs. So if you are staying downtown, and don't care about being at the "top of the line" places for regulas tourists, then stay here. The coffee shop is excellent. The sports book is still way too small and always has been, although I hear they may expand.
