 | Bangkok Sukhothai Bangkok The Reviews | 1 - 6 of 6 | | | | | | Sukhothai Bangkok The: Bangkoks most elegant Hotel
| | | | |
This is the most elegant, designed, stylish hotel in Bangkok. Yet, it is not my favourite. We stayed once in the owner's suite. As the name implies, it belongs to the owner. Therefore, you cannot book it. We were just upgraded due to overbooking. The size of this suite is overwhelming - I'd say over 200sqm. It looks like it comes out of a designer catalogue. Just perfect. Dark hardwook floors, combined with massive furniture and antiques. A huge living room with every convenience you can think of, and even some you can't. (How about an aquarium that has no water but rather TV-screens and a Laser Disc player providing fish-images?) The list goes on and on and it was really great fun to stay there. However, the dream just lasted one night, after which there was no more overbooking, hence we had to move back to the garden suite we had booked. The garden suite we had was still nice in size, but of course nowhere nearly as impressive as the owners suite. Bedroom and living room are not separted clearly from one another - both are in the same rather long room. Nice, but not outstanding. Public areas from lobby to swimming pool and also including restaurant are very elegantly laid out. It's all just a bit "over the top" for me and feels a bit cold and you nearly don't dare to speak in the high ceiling restaurant. - Just too different from the bustling city outside. It just felt like living in a catalogue: Everything was setup perfectly nicely. There was just not enough life in it.
Very stylish design. Perfect if you like living in a furniture catalogue. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Sukhothai Bangkok The: Luxurious old world charm in Bangkok
| | | | |
The Sukhothai Hotel is a beautiful, tranquil abode away from the madness of more touristy areas in Bangkok, like Pratunam, Silom or Sukhumvit. The hotel proper is a little way in from the entrance, which adds to the feeling of exclusivity. Low buildings, open concept everything, teakwood furnishings and muted lighting characterise this hotel, which is based on architecture of the Sukothai period of Thailand. I stayed in the executive suite, which was absolutely gorgeous. The bathroom is really something to talk about. It's an open concept bathroom right in the middle of the suite. Instead of the usual tiles, the flooring is made of wood, there's a bench in the middle of the room, two sinks, a shower room, a separate little nook for the toilet, and a bath. It's so big, it's a room in itself. You feel totally pampered taking a bath here. I imagine it would have been perfect for a romantic getaway. I didn't really get a chance to explore the rest of the hotel, and that's a pity, as I was only there for one night on business, but everything else looked impressive. There's a real old world charm to the place, especially because like I mentioned earlier, the entire hotel is made up of connecting short structures and a lot of the architecture is open concept. On a smaller note, the food in room service is wonderful, which should be an indication of what the restaurants have to offer. The nearest shopping area is the lively Suan Lum Night Bazaar, which is across from the hotel. Use the Lumphini MRT station as an underpass, the night bazaar is just outside exit 3. To explore all other areas, you would have to take the subway or a taxi. But with no traffic jam, it's only about 10 to 15 mins away by taxi from major shopping belts like Pratunam. Leave the station at exit 2, the hotel is about a five min walk away.Website: www.sukhothai.com
