  • Superb hotel, it will celebrate it's 20 years in 2006.
I stay 2 nights in a room with pool view in the 25st floor in the main building, the krungthep wing is more luxury. The view was superb. The room are not very large but offer everything. really good service they bring chocolate for our baby.Wonderful pool and boats bringing you around. This hotel was designed by interdesign, a group of architect that buid also the Sofitel Central Plaza, the Novotel Siam square and the Amari Orchid resort in Pattaya.

Superb pool, great service, large choice of restaurant

Shangri-La: Almost paradise ...    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • We just ate here, but it was clear from walking through the front door and the lobby to the cafe on the river that this was a beautiful and discreetly run hotel.

This picture is of the very modern lobby with stunning views of the river. The green items are stunning glass sculptures.

Shangri-La: High end digs    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • Well I've never stayed here I just liked the way it looked from the outside so I took a picture. It is right on the river and the upper floors would give you some fantastic views. All amentities that you high-end people like will be available here. I'm a cheap traveller so you wouldn't find me here. Rooms start at around $200 but I'm sure if you book on-line you can get that price down a bit.

All of the pleasures of home and then some!! You probably won't see any cockroaches here! LOL

Shangri-La: It doesn't get much better than this ...    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • We spent a happy hour after lunch sipping coffee and playing backgammon at a table next to the pool. We enjoyed "playing rich" -- and put this hotel on our list for a splurge if we get back here!

Shangri-La: Paradise on the banks of the Chao Phraya    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • On the banks of the Chao Phraya, the Shangri-La hotel is an oasis after touring Bangkok during the day.

Included breakfast buffet was delicious, daily selection included pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausage, fruit, pastries, made to order eggs/omelets, stir fry, fried rice, miso soup, curry dish, cereal, tea, coffee, juices. Guests could eat inside or out on the terrace overlooking the river.

I think we were in one of the lower class rooms so the amentities should be greater if you pay more Baht. King size bed with goose down pillows and comforter, room was spacious, our bathroom had a separate shower and bathtub. But I thought the coolest feature was a nightlight button next to the bed that lights up just enough to see the way to the bathroom but not bright enough to wake others.

Conveniently located near the Skytrain and near a river ferry pier, also has a free ferry to River City every 1/2 hour.

For a better price, try booking through www.asiahotels.com, www.circleofasia.com, www.asiatravel.com. We used www.tiglion.com for an airfare/hotel package from Hong Kong.

Good views of the river from most rooms, 2 pools, jacuzzi, full exercise facilities, several restaurants, attentive staff, complimentary fruit basket and bottled water, nice selection of toiletries. Could have done without the digital scale in the bathroom telling me that I was gaining weight every day!

...everything was *thai-silk*! The curtains, bed-covers and on walls silk-paintings.

  • ONCE IN MY LIFE I wanted to try what's it like to stay in one of the top 10 leading hotels of the World. Shangri-La is situated on the banks of the historic Chao Phraya River and each deluxe guestroom and suite enjoys spectacular river views.

    Shangri-La: Not A "5" Star    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I visit Bangkok twice a year since the last 15 years. I have stayed at all of the 5 star hotels on the river, and the Marriott Shagri-La is NOT a 5 star hotel. I would not give it more then 4 stars.
The pool is very small, and since the hotel is kid friendly, its packed with kids.
The rooms are very overpriced for the size and quality. If you want to get your monies worth of a 5 star, stay at the Peninsula or the Oriental. I enjoy staying on the river, it seems a little cooler then downtown Bangkok. The day spa has a great service, but the prices are outrageous. Body scrub and facial $240, good price for the states, but Thailand? If your going to pay this price, go to the spa at the Oriental

The staff and house keeping is great! Trader Vics is always great!

Shangri-La: Sophistication meets River View    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The view over the River is one of the major advantages of the Shangri-La.

    Room description:
    1. Main Wing, Executive suite:
Spacious with separate living entry, living room and bedroom. Decor is more of a general "exotic" or "oriental" flair rather than thai. Just my impression, I'm not at all an expert. Furniture style somewhat dated.
Immaculately clean. Very nice river view although not directly facing the river.

    2. Krungthep wing: (normal room)
Great frontal river view. Nice little balcony. Friendlier and more inviting feeling than in the Shangri-La wing.
More private and luxurious all the way from the lobby without hustle bustle of the main wing to breakfast in the krungthep wing.
Krungthep wing swimming pool was a disappointment. Firstly, it's rather narrow and just plain square. Secondly, it's very often in the shadow of the hotel. Thirdly, it was blocked two days for a chinese water ballet. This blocking for special occasions or even private parties seems to happen often.

Main swimming pool is a real delight. Very close to the river and still with that tropical feeling between the swaying palmtrees at sunset. Great, just too bad all the guests know that and it does get a little crowded in the evening.

Location is good: Close to the river for a nice view and also next to sky train station. (Adjacant to Krungthep wing, otherwise 5 mintues additional walk thru the hotel).
Shopping (Robinsons, grocery etc) around the block. (5-10 minutes walk)

    Service: Very good and unobstrusive.

Restaurants: Mainly ate breakfast only. For the rest, I find the prices a bit high. The competition is so huge in Bangkok and prices and quality at local restaurants are hard to beat.

    Beautiful pool by the river.
    Nice river view from rooms.
    Krungthep wing next to skytrain.

Shangri-La: I was at the Shangri-lah...    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • I was at the Shangri-lah Hotel. Idid choose it just because a friend told me to go there. What is good there is that it is just at the river and it has got nice terrasses where u can stay and look at the river for hours. The hotel is a De-luxe one but is pretty cheap, like all hotels in thailand and, more in general, in south-east asia.
    ca. 55 US$ pp a night.

    Great view!!
    very nice garden
